Elizabeth Lambert hair pull video - Elizabeth Lambert speaks out for the first time

Even though it has been two weeks since the Elizabeth Lambert hair pull video was released, it is still a hot topic, and on Wednesday Elizabeth Lambert spoke out for the first time since the release of the hair pull video.  The video clips were captured during the New Mexico vs. Brigham Young University (BYU) women's soccer game in Provo, Utah.

Wednesday, the New York Times released an interview with Elizabeth Lambert who said that she has watched the video several times, and each time she has a hard time believing that she is the girl pulling down BYU’s Kassidy Shumway by her hair.

“I still deeply regret it and will always regret it and will carry it through the rest of my life not to retaliate,” Lambert told the New York Times.

Lambert said that even though some of the forceful plays that are seen in the video occur frequently in women’s soccer, that someone who doesn’t watch soccer all the time might think it is shocking. She thought that perhaps the whole story had been blown out of proportion because it was a women’s game.

Lambert said she was bombarded with emails, phone calls, news reports, and blogs about her that disturbed her. And that she felt so conflicted about it that she still has nightmares.

“I’ll be angry with myself that I did this, to my team, my university, that I did this to women’s soccer, a sport that many females have worked very hard to get respect for,” Lambert told the New York Times. “And I’ll be sad that people want to see me suffer.”
