Elizabeth Edwards is surrounded by her children and John Edwards, as well as relatives, in what a statement to the Associated Press acknowledges as the final days of her illness. She has also written on her Facebook page, what is her "Good-bye." The woman courageously faced both illness and her husband's infidelity. And yet she left a legacy of forgiveness by her actions.
According to Forbes: "The family of Elizabeth Edwards eleased a statement to the AP on Monday, notifying the public that her cancer has spread, and she has only weeks to live. According to the statement, doctors say that further treatment would be unproductive, and a source close to the family says that Edwards may have only been given a few months to live.
"Edwards, estranged wife of one-time Presidential hopeful John Edwards, is currently with her three children and husband at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The AP’s anonymous source says 'her sister, brother, nieces, nephews, former campaign advisers and other friends were also there.'” A Look Into Elizabeth Edwards' Facebook Post on Her Worsening ...
In October I wrote about her three gifts:
Sharing her illness and its terminal nature with the public. And two other more personal gifts:
Accepting John’s lovechild
After arranging for a meeting with John's lovechild, little Quinn, of whom the mother is Rielle Hunter, Elizabeth said, 'Go stand next to Daddy," and she took a picture of the two of them..
For the sake of family and a child who is half-sister to the Edwards' children, Elizabeth Edwards met and embraced John's baby Frances Quinn.
Points that I stress so often with regard to marriage and infidelity -- anger is dangerous and damaging. Searching for clues is demeaning. At some point in a person's life there must be forgiveness. This meeting with Quinn is Elizabeth's example of forgiveness and acceptance to give her own children.
Asking that John Edwards be viewed as a loving father
Despite her estranged husband’s betrayal, Elizabeth Edwards wants her children to look on former presidential candidate John Edwards not as a cheating spouse, but a loving father.
“I have three living children for whom this is a father whom I want them to love, on whom they’re going to have to rely, perhaps if my disease takes a bad turn. It’s really important to me that they see him in a positive light,” Elizabeth Edwards: John ‘no longer the person I married’ | WCNC
