Elizabeth Edwards on 'Today' -- John's affair with Rielle Hunter and more (video)

Elizabeth Edwards gave her first TV interview since the John Edward - Reille Hunter affair was made public on NBC's "Today Show" Wednesday. It was a powerful few minutes of television, as we had the opportunity to watch Elizabeth talk about everything from her battle with cancer to the much-talked-about affair.

Here are a few highlights:

On how the affair became part of her new book Resilience

"I had originally agreed to write the book before [the affair] came out. When it became a huge thing, I thought 'I can't write this book' ... but then I couldn't write this book about being honest about the whole thing. I talked to my oldest daughter about it."

On how the story will impact her family

"It's not like it's going to come as an enormous surprise to them ... maybe they will remember it of something that's painful ... it really wasn't [about revenge], maybe those were my feelings at the time. It was when I realized I could write it about how this happened to me."

On if John has come clean about everything

"I'm confident he's told me the truth. Whether everything has come out ... we want to spend our life to move on. We deal with it some, but I don't think he's hiding anything from me."

That poor woman!!...it is a terrible thing for any woman to go through especially when one is sick!! Elizabeth did not hide and I do admire her for that even thru a book...I can't imagine what I would do if my husband did that to me!! If he ever did..my poor husband~~

Yes, I'll buy the book. What an ordeal for her and what a heartbreaking way to spend the last part of her life. What is also shocking and sad is that in the recent past stories have come out that she was hard to get along with, etc. When life is this cruel to someone so seemingly good, it comforts people to think that the person somehow brought this misfortune on themselves. I wish her well with peaceful days ahead - she is obviously an accomplished and rightous person
