Elizabeth Edwards cut John Edwards out of her will 6 days before she died

Less than a week before Elizabeth Edwards died, she drafted a new will which cut John Edwards completely out of her will, reports the New York Daily News, the News Observer, Business Insider  and CNN.

John Edwards Not Mentioned, Children Get Everything

In the newly drafted document, which was signed by Elizabeth Edwards on December 1, 2010, Elizabeth left everything to her three living children, Catherine (Cate), 28, Emma Claire, 12, and Jack, 10.

All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles owned by me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to my children.

Elizabeth Edwards left nothing to her estranged husband, John Edwards, who betrayed her and fathered a love child with his campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.

In fact, John Edwards was not even mentioned in the will.

John and Elizabeth Edwards were separated at the time of her death, and were in the process of getting a divorce.

Elizabeth named her oldest daughter, Cate, who is an attorney, as executor of her will. 

Elizabeth Edwards' last will and testament was filed December 22, 2010 in Orange County Superior Court.

Previous Reports About Elizabeth Edwards' Will

In a previous report, the National Enquirer, which originally exposed the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter affair, gave detailed information about Elizabeth Edwards' will which contained elements which do not appear in the will mentioned above. This information was supposedly obtained from an insider close to the Edwards family, which begs several questions:

• Did this information come from the previous version of Elizabeth Edwards’ will?  
   
• Is there a separate attachment not available to the public which contains the specific clauses/instructions which were mentioned in the National Enquirer’s report?  
   
• What was in the original will?   
   
• Why was there a need for Elizabeth Edwards to make a new will so close to the time of her death?

Can We Trust What the National Enquirer Says About Elizabeth Edwards’ Will?

The report in the National Enquirer was so detailed that it’s hard to believe that someone just made it up. See Elizabeth Edwards Will Amended to Heap Further Revenge on John Edwards and Elizabeth Edwards’ 3-Pronged Plan of  Revenge for John Edwards.

Though many people tend to discount information in the National Enquirer, they are surprisingly accurate in most of what they report.

Months after withdrawing from the presidential race, John Edwards confessed that the reports in the National Enquirer about his affair with Rielle Hunter were true.    

Two years after the fact, John Edwards was forced to admit that the National Enquirer’s reports that he was the father of Rielle Hunter’s daughter were also true.    

And let’s not forget that it was the National Enquirer that first exposed Tiger Woods' multiple affairs by reporting on Tiger’s Australian tryst with Rachel Uchitel, days before Tiger’s Thankgiving car accident, when “all hell broke loose.”

Since Elizabeth Edwards drafted a new will less than a week before her death, it would be interesting to find out what was in Elizabeth Edwards’ original will, and why it was suddenly changed.

Perhaps there is more information about both versions of Elizabeth Edwards' will yet to come.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
