Elizabeth City State University outlasts Saint Augustine’s in CIAA Tournament

The score was close for most of the game. Towards the end, Elizabeth City State University pulled away from Saint Augustine’s College to win their first round 2011 CIAA Tournament game 65-51 Wednesday.

Both teams struggled making their field goals. Elizabeth City State University held a slim lead at halftime 24-21. With around five minutes left in the game, the Vikings went on a 16-6 run and took control of the game.

Elizabeth City State University was led by Marquie Cooke with 16 points. Trent Bivens pitched in 12 points and Rondy Tucker added 11 points for the Vikings. Tyron Laughinghouse led Saint Augustine’s College with 13 points.

In Thursday’s semifinal round of the 2011 CIAA Tournament, Elizabeth City State University will face Shaw University at 1pm in the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC. Shaw defeated Lincoln (PA) in their first round game.
