Soaring above most Pinot Noir like the blue butterfly on Elizabeth Chambers Cellar’s label, one will fine a truly elegant wine from Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The winery specializing in Pinot Noir from McMinnville Oregon was founded in 2013.

Elizabeth Chambers, known as Liz, is no newcomer to the wine industry; her family has been in the business since 1991. The winery’s tasting room is located in the historic power station building in McMinnville.

The blue butterfly on the label that symbolizes the delicate balance of the winery’s Pinot Noir is attributed to Liz’s mother Carolyn who inspired the love Liz has of the Oregon Wine Country and more specifically the Willamette Valley. In addition it represents the butterflies that her mother enjoyed collecting.

Michael Stevenson is the winemaker, coming to Elizabeth Chambers Cellar from Panther Creek Cellars. The two are the perfect match for making exquisite Pinot Noir. Both Liz and Michael believe in keeping the wine as natural as possible letting the grapes speak to the wine by giving it character and balance. This often comes from using limited amounts of new oak and integrating some whole cluster fermentation into the wine thereby revealing itself with softer tannins. They also choose those vineyards that are more environmentally friendly with their farming techniques.

The 2011 Pinot Noir, Winemaker’s Cuvee is a blend of grapes from the Freedom Hill and Lazy River Vineyards. The wine is light in color and texture but very well balanced. The color reminds one of cranberries. There are earthy aromas on the nose. At first the flavors of cranberries and cinnamon come forth. As the wine sits the Pinot Noir displays hints of raspberries.

In addition, Elizabeth Chambers Cellar’s creates two single vineyard Pinot Noirs, the 2011 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2011 Freedom Hill Pinot Noir.

As the blue butterfly flutters and swirls across meadows, the Pinot Noirs from Elizabeth Chambers Cellar echoes it own elegantly balanced dance to keep you engaged with each sip.
