Elisabeth Moss wins Golden Globe Award for 'Top of the Lake'

Actress Elisabeth Moss has won a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television for her performance in "Top of the Lake" on Jan. 12, 2014, at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. The Golden Globe Awards are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and honors the best in television and film. Tonight’s show was hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey live on NBC.

Elisabeth Moss plays a police detective from Australia that while visiting her ailing mother in Queensland, New Zealand begins to investigate the strange disappearance of a local teenage girl. The case shakes her convictions and eventually reveals secrets about her own life.

This is the first Golden Globe win and second nomination for Jessica Lange. Her previous Golden Globe win was in 2011 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama for her performance in "Mad Men."

Also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television were:

  • Helen Mirren ("Phil Spector")
  • Helena Bonham Carter ("Burton and Taylor")
  • Rebecca Ferguson ("The White Queen")
  • Jessica Lange ("American Horror Story: Coven")

"Top of the Lake" was nominated for 2 Golden Globe Awards this evening. Its other nomination was for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
