Elisabeth Moss has been divorced for nearly four years, but the memories of her “horrible” marital experience have stayed with her. In a March 9 interview with New York magazine, the “Mad Men” star talked about her brief marriage to actor Fred Armisen. Moss was married to the “Saturday Night Live” alum for just eight months before they split in 2010.
“Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn’t think that I was that young,” the 31-year old actress said. “It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible. At the same time, it turned out for the best. I’m glad that I’m not there. I’m glad that it didn’t happen when I was 50. I’m glad I didn’t have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that’s probably not going to happen again.”
Last year, Armisen admitted he’s not marriage material, and he seemed to take the blame for the demise of the marriage. According to Us Weekly, the 47-year old actor told radio shock jock Howard Stern that he was a “terrible husband.”
"I want it all -- fast," Armisen explained on Stern’s Sirius XM radio show. "I want to be married . . . the amount of girls I've lived with right away . . . and then somewhere around a year, two years, I get freaked out … I feel bad for everyone I've gone out with.”
Moss seems to agree. The actress told Page Six Magazine her ex-husband definitely wasn’t the person she thought he was: “One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, 'He's so great doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person,’” she said. “To me, that sums it up.”
Moss resumes her role as Peggy Olson in the final season of “Mad Men,” which premieres Sunday, April 13 on AMC.
