The 71st annual Golden Globe Awards took place on Jan. 12, 2014, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. Here is what this Golden Globe winner said backstage in the Golden Globe Awards press room.

Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

(“Top of the Lake”)

Where will you put your Golden Globe?

I am going to sleep with it probably next to my bed like this, just curled up. I don’t know. I honestly did not think about that at all. So I will, I am sure, put it in a prominent place because I am honored and proud.

How will you be celebrating tonight?

Oh, God, thank you. I will probably do what I would have done before, which is dance and drink a little bit. Maybe I’ll drink a lot more now.

You thanked your mother. When you hear your mother’s voice in your head, what’s she is saying, and is she a big part of what got you here tonight?

You’re going to make me cry. I was so proud I didn’t cry up there and I wasn’t an idiot, and now I am going to be an idiot. She drove me to ballet class and she took me to every audition and she would be proud of me if I was still sitting in that seat. She’d be proud of me if I was watching from home. So she believes in me, so that’s why this was for her, and she’s a wonderful woman and wonderful mother.

Does a big day like this make you nervous? What do you do to stay calm?

Couple things I can’t tell you about, and then honestly just listen to music, like try to pretend that it’s any other day, because usually it is. Because usually I don’t win, so usually it is any other day.

What was the music?

Katy Perry, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, just the usual line-up.

Sometimes people come back here and are not convinced that they are actually thrilled they have won. They are happy but they have been here before. You clearly love this moment.

Oh, no. Is it too obvious? I will try to be a little cooler about it. Whatever, it’s no big deal. I have been here a few times as a nominee, which I am so honored for, for “Mad Men,” and it is just really an honor to be recognized by HFPA [the Hollywood Foreign Press Association], who I have sort of met a bunch of times, and some of them know my name. And it is nice that they sort of chose to give to it me out of all of those women, too. Come on, there’s no way I am as good as those girls. So that is the true honor.

Elisabeth, who is your style icon?

That’s such a good question. I was not prepared for that. Honestly, I tend to kind of like Marion Cotillard, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, who I had the pleasure of just meeting. I like those women, very classy, international style. But everyone likes them.

Why do you think the cast of “Mad Men” has recently been overlooked during award show time? Is it because your acting so subtle in that show?

It is one of the things I would not presume to be able to answer. I know that there is incredible excitement. I know Jon [Hamm] won [a Golden Globe in 2008]. It was awesome and deserved. I think it is an awesome show, and I don’t know. I don’t know why anyone wins these things necessarily, although I am glad that I did this year, but I don’t know.

I don’t have a good theory that doesn’t make me sounds like an a**hole. I just want to say, since this is a lull, that I was an idiot and flustered and shaking like a leaf and I didn’t get to thank See-Saw Films and Iain [Canning] and Emile [Sherman] everybody else who were responsible for getting this thing made. Them and Sundance and BBC. Of course, I named the people that are going to give me my next job, which they are not going to now.
