Are Elisabeth Hasselbeck's “The View” days numbered? First there were reports she would be fired, then Barbara Walters tore into the rumors. Now newly updated reports via Page Six on March 17 indicate that the network is looking to get rid of Hasselbeck, but they may be trying to make it seem as if it's her decision to leave.
Hasselbeck is still under contract until 2014, but there have been murmurs that the show was ready to make a change. Now the New York Post's Page Six says that their sources indicate that Joy Behar's departure was a push by the network as well, and they allowed her to “bow out gracefully.” However, it seems Elisabeth Hasselback's “View” departure was leaked and Walters is furious about how it has been mishandled. As a result, Elisabeth's firing was supposedly called off.
However, now the site says that ABC may “coax [Hasselbeck] to go early” rather than wait to leave the show after her contract expires. Supposedly the network is “desperate” to freshen up the show, and they feel replacing Hasselbeck and Behar is the move they need to make. While the show reportedly won't rush into naming replacements, there are already several names swirling: Ali Wentworth, Brooke Shields and Christie Brinkley.
Will Elisabeth Hasselbeck's “View” days be coming to an end soon? ABC and Barbara Walters definitely appears to be in a bit of a pickle with this one now, if they were working on firing her but now feel stuck about making a move. For now fans of “The View” will simply have to stay tuned to see what happens.
