Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving “The View,” but she didn’t have a choice in the matter. According to Us Magazine on March 8, 2013, Hasselbeck is leaving due to popular demand to get her off the air from the viewers.
Viewer’s found the controversial co-host “too extreme right wing” in a market research poll conducted recently. Who knew those telephone calls at the dinner hour asking all types of TV viewing questions really meant anything?
Apparently they do, or Elisabeth would be coming back to the couch with her extreme views and her insistence that other’s hear it. She was recently told that her contract wouldn't be renewed. Hasselbeck’s departure was announced on the heels of Joy Behar deciding to leave the show on her own accord after 16 and a half years on “The View.”
Joy was one of the original cast from the day the show first aired. Elisabeth joined it 8 years later in 2003. She replaced the popular Lisa Ling, who left in 2002. The 35-year-old Hasselbeck had many memorable arguments through her years on the show.
Last year she had a heated argument with Barbara Walters over Mitt Romney and before that she went head to head with Rosie O’Donnell in 2007 over the war in Afghanistan.
Behar 70, was more suited than Hasselbeck for a talk show sharing different views. While she held to her convictions, she welcomed other’s to voice their thoughts without belittling their beliefs if they were different from hers.
