Elisabeth Hasselbeck leaving "The View" is topping celebrity news searches this evening, as the Huffington Post reported this Friday, March 8, that the co-host is being fired from the popular morning talk show.
Under the headline, “Elisabeth Hasselbeck leaving ‘The View?' Us Weekly reports co-host ousted”, sources report that the well-known conservative co-host is going to be following Joy Behar out of the “View” door as researchers believe that her conservative political opinions were not being well received by audiences.
"People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed," said the source to Us Weekly.
A later report from Deadline added that the Hasselbeck leaving View headline remains “unclear”, while a spokesman for “The View” did point out that Hasselbeck has a “long-term contract”, so the announcement that she’ll be fired isn’t confirmed.
If Elisabeth Hasselback’s conservative views do in fact pose a problem with female audiences, it would have to be a new change, as the show (which has featured Hasselbeck for over ten years) has been doing very well in the ratings for the past decade.
Hasselbeck leaving “The View” would mean that it has lost another big host recently. The conservative talk show speaker is also known for bringing a sense of conflict to the show, and without her political points if she is indeed leaving (or fired), the Huffington Post notes, the sense of “drama and discussion” on “The View” may be compromised in the future.
