Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving “The View,” but has she been fired? Several sources agree that the long-time co-host and conservative voice on the ABC daytime show is leaving, but has she been fired? The Huffington Post quotes several on-line tabloids on Friday, March 8, that Hasselbeck’s status has changed from “unclear” to unwanted.
Word is that her politics do not agree with those of the audience, but why is that a problem? For ten years, she has been arguing with Joy Behar (who is leaving by choice) and Whoopi Goldberg. Their dialogs are at the heart of the show. And further word says Hasselbeck has a long-term contract. So what makes the difference?
Since change is already happening, producers probably feel they may as well make the changes wider. Joy is leaving; Elisabeth Hasselbeck could be leaving too, simply to make room for a new look and a changing direction. Television shows cannot afford, in today’s competitive market, to begin sounding old, tired, and predictable. The show has had the same cast since 2007. It’s time for a fresh source of conflict.
No doubt Elisabeth Hasselbeck will pop up again, perhaps on a talk show of her own. Perhaps she could replace Glenn Beck.
