Elin Nordegren's $100 million divorce settlement proves Tiger Woods is no fool

divorce settlement proves Tiger Woods is no fool. Photo: AP/ Brownbill

When it was rumored that Tiger Woods would have to pay $750 million to Elin Nordegren, he was thought to be a fool for 3 reasons.

• There was a pre-nup allegedly in effect that would give Elin Nordegren $20 million.

• Tiger and Elin had only been married about 6 years, and the bulk of Tiger’s fortune had been accumulated prior to that time.

• $750 million was more than Tiger Woods' estimated net worth. See What is Tiger Woods’ REAL Net Worth? – Elin’s Divorce Settlement Depends on That

People felt that Tiger Woods was a fool to hand over that much money, regardless of his multiple affairs.

When it looked like Elin Nordegren had her eye on the $80 million Jupiter Island oceanfront estate which was said to be Tiger Woods’ prized possession, people said Tiger would be a fool to give it up.

Money Was Never Tiger Woods’ Main Concern

What most people failed to realize is that when it came to negotiating his divorce settlement, money was merely a means to an end for Tiger Woods. It was not his primary concern.

From the very beginning of the divorce negotiations, it was clear that Tiger Woods only had two primary concerns:

• Ensuring and maintaining his privacy

• Getting joint custody of his kids

From Tiger’s viewpoint, money was never the main focus, in his infidelity scandal or his divorce. See Elin Nordegren’s Latest Demands in the Final Negotiations of the Tiger Woods Divorce

This is evident from the numerous reports that Tiger Woods made generous payoffs to his alleged mistresses in return for their silence.

• Emma Rotherham was rumored to have received a cash payoff of $500, 000.

• It was rumored that Theresa Rogers, the mother of Tiger Woods’ alleged love child (a daughter) received a payoff of between $3 million and $4 million.

• Rachel Uchitel is rumored to have received as much as $10 million to maintain her silence about her affair with Tiger Woods.

So while money was not an issue in Tiger’s divorce settlement, Tiger’s privacy, and getting joint custody of his children were.

What Tiger Wanted, Tiger Got

As we can see, the two things that mattered most to Tiger Woods in negotiating his divorce settlement were the lifetime confidentiality clause he wanted, and getting joint custody of his kids.

And that’s what Tiger got.

NOTE: See Tiger Woods - Elin Nordegren Divorce - Who Got What in the FINAL Deal

In return for $100 million -- a fraction of Tiger’s wealth -- he will get a lifetime of privacy from Elin Nordegren in the form of the lifetime confidentiality clause, which Elin finally agreed to sign. See Why is Elin Nordegren Refusing to Sign Tiger Woods Lifetime Confidentiality Clause? The confidentiality agreement is said to remain in effect even after Tiger Woods dies.

Under the terms of this agreement, Elin is prohibited from publicly discussing any aspect of her life with Tiger Woods -- no books, no TV appearances, no interviews of any kind. If Elin violates the terms of the lifetime confidentiality clause in any way, she will be required to forfeit all that she has gained.

Though Elin Nordegren has joint physical custody of the children (which would be impractical for Tiger because of his golf schedule), Tiger and Elin will share joint legal custody of the kids.

Joint legal custody will allow Tiger Woods to have a say in any major decisions involving his children.

The custody agreement also provides Tiger with generous visitation rights. According to reports, Tiger will be able to see his children up to one half of each week, with possible adjustments to be made in consideration of his travel schedule for paying golf.

Tiger reportedly also has the option to renegotiate the terms of the custody agreement in 5 years.

TMZ recently reported that newly negotiated terms of the divorce settlement give Elin Nordegren “wide latitude” as to where she and the children can live, and allow Elin to take the children to Sweden if she should so choose. See Tiger Woods Divorce Negotiations Continue - Settlement NOT Final Yet

Back in May, it was reported that Tiger Woods retained the services of West Palm Beach attorney Thomas Sasser, whose expertise is enforcing international child custody agreements. See Latest Tiger Woods – Elin Nordegren Divorce Details

So we can assume that in allowing Elin to take the children to Sweden, Tiger is following Mr. Sasser’s advice.

Proof That Tiger Woods Is No Fool

So it appears, thus far, that Tiger will only have to give up $100,000,000 - a fraction of his estimated net worth. See NEWS FLASH - How Much Elin Nordegren is REALLY Getting from Tiger Woods – It’s NOT $750 Million

In return, Tiger gets a lifetime of privacy, joint legal custody of his children, and it seems he won't have to give up his prized Jupiter Island oceanfront estate. See Tiger Woods - Elin Nordegren Divorce - Who Got What in the FINAL Deal

Guess this proves that Tiger Woods is not such a fool, after all.

Let's see -- Tiger has lost a fabulous wife, the respect of the world, his golf talent, major endorsements, a family life, all for a few minutes with prostitutes and airhead gold-digging tramps. I'd say that pretty makes him the world's BIGGEST fool!

    To BB,

    I agree.

However, Tiger's certainly no fool when it comes to using his money to get what he wants - his privacy, and joint custody of his children.

How sad that all of Tiger's money can't turn back the clock, and buy his marriage and family back.

Elin is being short changed especially when she needs to be silent for her lifetime. The W*H*O*R*E* plastic, silicone cow Uglitel was reportedly involved with Tiger for a few months(6/09-11/09) and received $10 millions. While Elin who has been with Tiger since 2002( and HIS LOYAL WIFE (since 2004)AND THE MOTHER OF HIS TWO CHILDREN is receiving only $100 millions.Elin has most likely been subjected by Tiger to emotional, verbal and possible sexual and physical abuse during this relationship since Tiger appears to be a very troubled man with serious emotional and character issues!!!Who said that life is fair??? I am glad that Elin and the children will soon be free to enjoy life again, while Tiger may continue to be a prisoner of his reckless behavior for a long time!!!

Tiger may be no fool but Elin is laughing all the way to the bank.

  • DSW 1 year ago

Oh he's a fool alright. He doesn't have his privacy and with this paltry settlement, society will exact the rest from his hide. Tiger will never win another major, count on it.
