Elijah Wood joins the cast of ‘The Last Witch Hunter’

Elijah Wood has joined the cast of Lionsgate’s “The Last Witch Hunter,” opposite Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie (“Game of Thrones”) and Michael Caine. Lionsgate made the announcement on August 4th.

Breck Eisner (“Sahara,” “The Crazies”) will direct from a script written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (“Gods of Egypt”) based on a pitch by Cory Goodman. D.W. Harper and Melisa Wallack also worked on the script. Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann and Diesel are producing the movie which Samantha Vincent of One Race and Adam Goldworm are executive producing. Lionsgate will release “The Last Witch Hunter” in North America through its Summit Entertainment label.

According to the official synopsis released by the studio, In “The Last Immortal,” an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity.

Wood has starred in a long slate of films including the Oscar® winning “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Deep Impact,” “Sin City,” “Everything is Illuminated” and the “Happy Feet” animated film franchise. Most recently he was seen in the independent thriller “Grand Piano,” written by Damien Chazelle and directed by Eugenio Mira. Next, Wood will be seen in “Set Fire to the Stars,” which premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival. On television, Wood can currently be seen in the fourth and final season of “Wilfred” on FXX. The series finale is August 13, 2014.

Wood’s specific role in “The Last Witch Hunter” has not yet been announced. Production on the film is slated to commence this month.
