The Eli Whiteny Museum in New Haven is a workshop where they build toys and other objects and a museum where they display collections of antique toys and trains. The museum offers workshops in design and experimenting from simple machines to a pinball machine. Children learn the science behind the design of the object they make. Classes are offered for school children, parents and teachers that involve hands on building and design.

The museum currently has a train exhibit of a company called A.C. Gilbert of New Haven. They made American flyer trains. There is a train display with running trains and an assortment of learning toys the company made between 1909 and 1964. A.C. Gilbert made chemistry sets, microscope sets, erector sets, magic sets and physics sets with a science theme. Most of the science toys were made for boys. The company made building blocks and magnetics. These items are displayed inside the museum. The exhibit will run on Saturdays and Sundays through January.
