Re-posted from my blog: Malted Musings.
The Mardi Gras celebration at Eli Cannon's Tap Room has been going on for just about as long as anyone can remember. This year, however, there is an added reason to celebrate: the day of the celebration (March 4th) is the 20th anniversary of Eli's, the long standing facet of Middletown's North End! I had a chance to touch base with Bar Manager Rocco LaMonica about Mardi Gras recently, and he was psyched to be in charge of such a monumental event in Eli's history.
To start with, Rocco told me that the Mardi Gras celebration will feature everything that people have come to expect: beads, swag giveaways, a new menu release, crawfish boil, and free samples from said new menu. All of these are expected yearly and, as Rocco says, with so many people coming to Eli's for this specific reason, he would be very reluctant to change the winning formula!
In addition to the old favorites, Eli Cannon's will be featuring a brewery-special release from the new Middletown brewing company Stubborn Beauty. Cooked up specifically for the 20th anniversary, this Belgian-style blond will only be available at Eli's, and is guaranteed to be super fresh -- as it's coming from just right up the road! Along with the Stubborn Beauty, Rocco is also bringing in some Abita beer (the big-time Louisianian brewery) to usher in the feel of the Big Easy.
This night is all about customer appreciation, Rocco explained to me. It's a huge day that many people (including staff) look forward to all year. As for me, I love this event as it's a great way to break out of the winter slump: Eli's is offering a night of hot food, hot fun, and free stuff! It doesn't get better than that -- I'll be sure to see you all March 4th! Follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and G+ for more local events and beer news.
