Southern India – Two elephants that walked about 22 miles from a nearby forest entered the suburb city of Mysore in Southern India killing a 55-year-old man who authorities say was trampled to death.
The elephants also left a trail of destruction and are still on the loose prompting schools in the city to close.
State forest officials say encroachment may be one of the reasons the elephants came into the area since it was initially inhabited by elephants.
Another forest official weighed in on the incident. "Unregulated expansion of farm lands and increasing movement of people and vehicles through the elephant corridor are making the wild jumbos enter into villages and towns in search of food and shelter," he told the AFP.
Officials say the two elephants will be captured and released back into the wild.
