Jay Einhorn is a practising psychologist. While he doesn't bring his sessions to the songwriting room, he does give us the benefit of his experience with the human condition. Still, I can't help but think lyrics like "I must be getting better, 'cause I think I'm getting worse" has a background in therapy.
The title song is a play on the old story of the blind men determining exactly what an elephant is. You know, the one who feels the tail says it is a rope, etc. This time, those paciderm-deprived analysts are in a totally dark tent, making the same erroneous analyses.
All 14 cuts contain outstanding and thoughtful lyrics by Jay Einhorn, and blend elements of folk, jazz, bluegrass, gospel, and perhaps a few other genres.
Jay is ably backed by such local favorites as Trillium's Doug Lofstrom on standup bass, Jordi Kleiner, of the Dean Milano mafia on fiddle, among many others.
Produced by Jay himself, "Elephant" is available at www.elephantinthedark.com.
