The CBS breakout series "Elementary" has quickly become one of television’s must see shows since it hit the airwaves in October. One sure sign of the shows popularity: it will air in the post-Super Bowl time slot which is no easy feat. Stars Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu along with producer Rob Doherty recently sat down to discuss what fans can expect during the rest of the season (BuzzSugar, Jan 12),
One of the bigger questions that fans want to know is when Moriarty will invade Sherlock’s world. It looked as if we had met the mysterious M when Vinnie Jones appeared on our screens continuing his London killing spree in New York. However once Sherlock tracked the serial killer down believing he was the one who killed Irene, we learned along with Sherlock that he was Sebastian Moran and not the infamous Professor Moriarty.
But have no fear: Sherlock's arch-nemesis is coming. Folks have theorized that John Hannah would be cast in the part but that is also not the case once it was announced that he was joining the show. However, Hannah’s character will be a blast from the past but he will not be “M.” Doherty says that the role has not been cast yet and those in charge are "approaching it very carefully and as quietly as we can." "It's less fun for me if all of you know who it is, when they'll arrive, and what they'll be doing."
As for Irene, she too will be coming. The when’s where’s and how’s of how she will be introduced is not yet known but the producer says: "We definitely want to meet her. You will see a living, breathing actress reading lines and portraying Irene."
And finally, although many would like to see it happen and most expected that it would: Sherlock and Watson will not become an item, at least not anytime in the foreseeable future. The actors chemistry together is obvious and Liu says that people have mentioned that it seems like Sherlock and Watson have "known each other for a while." Miller says that working with Liu has been a “blessing”. Doherty simply said that even though the fandom is strong and people are clamouring for it: "we love to defy expectations on this show," and left little doubt with "for as long as I am a part of this show, it's not something I want to see." Why not? "I don't think we need it," So it sounds like the sleuthing pair will not become anything more than BFF’s.
