After a live concert by Detroit rockers Electric Six, often you will read rave reviews about the band. But vocalist Dick Valentine has a different reason to see them perform live. “With the live show, you get to see my drummer as opposed to feeling him,” he says of drummer Percussion World. “and he looks great!”
This month, the western half of the country will be able to see and feel the drums as Electric Six hits the road. They are playing at Stubb's Barbecue in Austin, Texas with Gabriel the Marine and Hooka Hey as openers on Sunday, February 24. Tickets are $14 in advance or $16 at the door and the doors open at 8 p.m.
This tour isn’t just for those who can experience Electric Six live. The tour kicks off a Kickstarter drive to raise funds for 'Absolute Treasure', the band’s first live DVD, which is to be released in 2014. “Previously, I said I’d only do a Kickstarter campaign to have me surgically altered to look like Amanda Palmer, but this live DVD seems like a good idea as well,” explains Dick. “We want professional camerawork and editing, so we need some financing. In order to get this financing, we are offering up ten years of E6 memorabilia, and it turns out there’s a whole lot of it ready to be auctioned off. We’re excited about auctioning some of it off.”
To make it a truly rewarding experience for supporters, Electric Six is offering a host of unique packages at different pricing levels. Most exciting of these is the extras DVD, which will feature a host of unique features including the deepest interview ever done with the band. It will also include all kinds of behind the scenes hijinks and maybe even some short films as well. What it won’t include is any of the band’s videos. Signed stage-worn clothing and an executive producer credit in the DVD packaging along with an on-stage acknowledgement at a show are all offered on the Kickstarter page, which has already reached its funding goal.
The live DVD is to be filmed on September 7, 2013 in the band’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan at the legendary St. Andrew’s Hall. The footage will shot by The Work, capturing the band in their element at home. The Electric Six live DVD will be shot in HD and available in both DVD and Blu Ray formats in all regions. “In Detroit when you are watching a show you get to feel the knives,” adds Dick.
A companion piece to their recently released live CD 'Absolute Pleasure', the live DVD will enable couch-ridden fans the to witness the madness of the massive crush of an undulating and exuberant crowd. They will also get to see the off-key screaming and singalong to “Girl, I’m gonna take you to a gay bar, gay bar, gay bar” and the visceral feeling of getting power-drenched by Dick’s sweat.
Electric Six will be swinging into the western half of the states with their catalog of material, including “Gay Bar”, “Danger! High Voltage”, “Hello! I See You!” and more. Please visit the Electric Six website for more information on the Kickstarter campaign and current tour.
Electric Six is comprised of Dick Valentine on vocals, Da Ve on guitar, Johnny Na$hinal on guitar, Smorgasbord on the bass, Tait Nucleus on synths and Percussion World on the drums.
