Weeks after elections in the Philippines, violence can still be seen sporadically in parts of the country. This time it was the newly elected chairman of Barangay 66 in Paseo del Legazpi district in Tacloban City.
Aldrin Benitez, 40, was gunned down by a lone gunman outside the barangay hall. The gunman and an accomplice pulled up on a motorcycle and fired at least seven times at Benitez killing him on the spot.
Police have not ruled out the killing as politically motivated.
Benitez’s widow Sylvia didn’t understand the killing saying, “Honestly, I don’t have any idea why he was killed.”
She is also requesting police to speed up the investigation of the murder of her husband of 20 years.
