A couple busy weeks ahead, particularly for this reporter.
We did have a ballot change this week, as First District Congressional hopeful John A. Roberts, a Republican, abandoned his drive for the seat on Friday.
Now we can get to the calendar, which is growing.
Monday, July 19 - The Mid-Shore chapter of Americans for Prosperity is hosting a United States Senate candidate forum at the Dorchester County Library, 303 Gay Street in Cambridge, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Confirmed to attend thus far are Republicans Stephens Dempsey, Daniel McAndrew, and Jim Rutledge, along with Democrats Christopher Garner, Sanquetta Taylor, and Lih Young.
Tuesday, July 20 - Boat Cruise to Smith Island with Delegate Norm Conway, 6-8 p.m. Boat leaves from Pier B10 at 715 Broadway in Crisfield. Varying sponsorship levels range from $125 to $1,000. This event is hosted by Rice Consulting, LLC, of Bel Air, Maryland.
Wednesday, July 21 - The granddaddy of Eastern Shore political events, the 34th Annual J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake takes place at Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Most local and statewide candidates are expected to show for this gathering of 6,000 or so Somerset-area residents and/or political junkies. Tickets are $40 and may be available at the gate. Sponsored by the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
Scheduled date for the monthly meeting of the Democratic Club of Wicomico County, Knights of Columbus, 1501 Emerson Avenue in Salisbury, 7 p.m. Guest speaker to be announced.
Thursday, July 22 - The Wicomico County Chapter of the NAACP will host a 'Meet the Candidates' forum at the First Baptist Church, 528 Booth Street in Salisbury. Event begins at 7 p.m.
Friday, July 23 - The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce continues its Lunch 'n Learn candidate forum series from noon to 1 p.m. Each Friday several Wicomico County candidates (3 or 4) will be invited to come and give a 5 minute opening statement and then take questions from the audience. The Chamber is located at 144 E. Main Street in Saisbury, and patrons are encouraged to bring their own brown bag lunch.
District 38A Delegate candidate John Phoebus will hold a fundraiser from 6 - 9 p.m. at Black Diamond Catering, 219 S. Fruitland Boulevard (Business U.S. 13), Fruitland, MD. Cost is $20. RSVP to Leslie Wilson (410) 430-0856.
Saturday, July 24 - Breakfast with Congressional candidate Andy Harris, 8:30 - 10 a.m. at The Fountains Wedding and Conference Center, 1800 Sweetbay Drive in Salisbury. Cost is $10. RSVP to Ed Harris (443) 235-2347 or ed (at) andyharris.com.
Target shooting fundraiser for Wicomico County Council candidate Mike Brewington at an undisclosed location. Suggested donation is $20 per person, with details and location available by calling (410) 860-1894.
A Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for District 37A hopeful Dustin Mills will be held at the Deli at Pecan Square, 1210 Nanticoke Road in Salisbury, from 5 to 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 per person, or $45 for a couple. Also, children under 7 are free and children between the ages of 7-14 are only $15. Dustin will be among a number of local political officials serving the spaghetti. Dessert Social and Fundraiser for Mike Calpino (Wicomico County Council District 2) and Mike Brewington (Wicomico County Council at-large), 7-9 p.m., Westside Community Center, 21109 Bivalve Lodge Road in Bivalve. Free food and drink, 50-50 and other prize raffles.
Monday, July 26 - The monthly meeting of the Wicomico County Republican Club will feature scheduled speaker Brian Murphy, Republican candidate for Governor. The meeting will be held at the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, 144 E. Main Street in Salisbury, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, July 28 - The monthly meeting of the Wicomico County chapter of Americans for Prosperity will feature a number of local political candidates. The meeting will be held at Brew River at 502 West Main Street in Salisbury, beginning at 7 p.m.
