On New Year's Day, 73-year-old Earl Spencer was outside the convenience store he owns in Chesterfield County, servicing the gas pumps, when he was approached from behind and severely beaten.

Spencer was repeatedly punched in the head, suffering several injuries and spent the night at VCU Medical Center.

The attack occurred around 5:10 a.m. at Spencer's store, located at 5144 Centralia Road.

The assailant also robbed Spencer, getting away with thousands of dollars in cash, according to police.

Chesterfield Police Lt. David Shand told WTVR:

We’re hoping since the victim didn't see the assailant, that someone saw something suspicious or a vehicle. There’s not a lot of people out that time of morning, but someone knows something."

No arrests have been made in this case.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
