Daily there has been no end to the tensions between the Chinese authorities and the Tibetans. Phayul.com reported on Sept. 12, 2013, "68 year old Tibetan senior beaten up for independence protest." Earlier in September a Tibetan man was arrested by the Chinese authorities in Driru County for protesting against Chinese rule and for making demands for independence for Tibet.
Sources have said 68 year old Dayang was severely beaten up and arrested after he shouted out demands for independence for Tibet. He also prayed for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. At the time political thought education was being given by Chinese work-team officials who were accompanied by a cultural troupe from the Tibet Autonomous Region
Dayang chanted, “Long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama, independence for Tibet,” as he raised a Tibetan traditional well-wishing scarf in his hands. He was very quickly subdued and beaten up very badly. Dayang is being treated in a hospital at this time and his condition is not known. Tibetans have been deeply saddened by the beating of this elderly man and remain very concerned about continued harsh restrictions on their freedoms in Tibet.
