An elderly nun, 85, was beaten and brutally raped in a church parking lot in Aliquippa, outside of Pittsburgh, as reported by Anya Sostek of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Saturday.

Andrew Bullock, 18, has been arrested and charged with

"felony rape, aggravated assault and sexual assault, and misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure, simple assault and reckless endangerment, according to court documents."

The woman, whose name has not been released, is described by her peers as “a passionate advocate of nonviolence, peace and justice, and each month she conducts a prayer vigil for peace in the chapel of our Motherhouse.”

They continued to say that they will pray for the teen who committed the crime,

“As we offer continued prayers of healing for our Sister, we also pray for the young man who has been arrested in the assault.”

The victim was taken to the hospital "where she underwent surgery for a dislocated lower jaw."

The local CBS Affiliate reported that the victim

"was walking in a parking lot behind the church when she was approached by a man who choked her, punched her, then threw her to the ground where she was assaulted and raped."

Assistant Chief Dan Couch said,

“The first thing you notice when you look up up where this horrific act occurred, is the statue of the Virgin Mary looking down.”

It is difficult to fathom how anyone could be capable of such a horrific act. Hopefully, the victim and her loved ones will find peace and healing.
