An elderly man has been accused of entering his wife’s hospital room and shooting her with a small caliber semi-automatic handgun. His wife was critically wounded and he is currently on suicide watch in the local jail.

William Dresser was arrested by Carson City Sheriff deputies after walking into his wife’s third floor room at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City, Nev. Dresser fired one shot from his semi-automatic handgun hitting his wife in the chest at approximately 11:30 a.m. The shooting which hospital officials described as a “targeted situation” resulted in the facility being locked down for two hours.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong revealed that the woman’s injuries were considered life threatening and she was transferred to the Renown Regional Medical Center. According to Furlong, Dresser has no criminal record and has never been in trouble in the past. Additionally, he no history of violence.

William Dresser was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. He is on suicide watch and is his bail was set at $225,000.
