Elsie Smith is selling all of her belongings in an estate sale. Although she would love to keep her things, she would rather keep a promise she made. According to a report by KOMO News, dated Feb. 15, Elsie Smith promised her husband he would not be cremated. She is doing all she can to raise the money to pay for his funeral arrangements.
Elsie Smith was married to Joe Smith for 46 years. He passed away earlier this week. He had Alzheimer's. She promised him that he would not be cremated, but have a casket and a funeral. The funeral will cost about $3,000. She only has $9.
That is why she is selling everything she owns. At the age of 91, Elsie Smith is on her own. She has no children, relatives or even friends. She is doing what she can to earn enough money to pay for the funeral she promised to the love of her life.
The local news station, KOMO, has set up a “Problem Solvers” fund. Anyone interested in making a donation to help Elsie Smith bury her husband, as she promised, can go to their website and make a contribution.
