According to Wish TV 8 on Monday, an elderly woman was found by contractors tied up and gagged in her basement Monday morning.
Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) say contractors arrived at the 82 year old woman's home in the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue to do some work Monday morning. They heard some noise coming from the basement and went to investigate only to find the woman tied up with duct tape over her mouth.
'She was a little bit confused about everything. She couldn't put it all together. She had been there a while,' said IMPD Lieutenant Chris Bailey. 'She told us she didn't believe she was assaulted any other way other than being tied to the chair and the duct taped.'
IMPD said the woman may have been tied up since Saturday, which was the last time neighbors saw her.
Several items from the house are missing, but specific details have not been released.
The woman was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital.
Neighbors say crime is a problem in the eastside neighborhood, which consists of several boarded up homes.
'Stuff like that happens from time to time. You just have try to stay positive and try not to lean on the negative. (We) need to come together as a neighborhood and help each other, lean on each other's back in situations like this and not let violent stuff like that keep us in fear,' said David Stevenson who works in neighborhood..
Anyone with information about the robbery should call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
