Elderly couple tied up, robbed at gunpoint in Hewlett home invasion

An elderly couple was tied up at gunpoint Saturday night inside their Hewlett home during an armed invasion, Nassau County police said.

Fourth Squad detectives said a 73-year-old man was returning to his home on Lakeview Drive around 8:15 p.m. last night when two men approached him as he opened his garage door and exited his car. Police said the men were wearing dark colored masks and one was armed with a handgun.

Once inside the house, one of the men forced the victim to walk from room to room while he demanded money and property, police said. The second man then went into the master bedroom and found the victim’s 72-year-old wife. He also demanded money and property, said police.

After the armed thieves took cash and jewelry, they bound the hands of the elderly couple behind their backs, led them to the master bedroom and then fled from the home, police said.

The victims were able to call police after the men left the home. No one was injured, police said. No descriptions of the men were provided in a Sunday morning news release.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers may remain anonymous.
