An elderly couple died holding hands Sunday afternoon in Spokane, Wash. after a bad car accident. NBC News reports Oct. 16 that Floyd Nordhagen, 92, and Margaret Nordhagen, 88 were found holding hands by first responders when they saw the elderly couple inside the wreckage.
The couple were pulling out of a store parking lot onto a state highway when an oncoming truck struck their vehicle.
Marv Nordhagen, the elderly couple's son, said he believes his mom grabbed his dad’s hand when the accident occurred.
Friends of the Nordhagens said they were went to the store to get some food for the many animals they took care of.
“You don’t see that every day,” Trooper Rob Spencer said.“We actually had to ask her to let go of him, so we could get him out of the car.”
It's unknown if the Margaret reached for her husband's hand before or after he died.
The elderly couple was married for 68 years and resided on a ranch in Elk Community of Spokane for 45 years. Floyd was said to have often bragged about how pretty his wife was. When he found it difficult to push the lawnmower, she would push it with him.
It's unimaginable for a lot of elderly couples to picture themselves living alone after their spouse dies. This story is sad yet touching since this couple died together holding hands. Neither of them had to go on living without the other by their side every day.
