Retired clinical psychologist Dr. Robert Fettgather expressed his concerns in an open letter to Deputy Public Guardian Jennifer Empasis. Readers may express their concerns directly to Ms. Empasis at the email address posted above.
Dear Ms. Empasis,
I write to you as a citizen-advocate with grave concern over the well being of elder Margarita Zelada. Ms Zelada is being isolated from all visitors as she is locked inside a care home in Del Rey Oaks. Advocate Linda Kincaid and I arrived at the care home, Senior Paradise, only to be denied visitation by Margaret Eldred Camara and Judith Parada-Soto. These administrators were openly distressed by our friendly visit and stated they had been directed by you to deny visitors and to call the police.
These authoritarian measures placed caregivers in violation of licensing laws forbidding forced seclusion and lock down of facilities. More urgently, Ms. Zelada is currently in a compromised state of ongoing elder abuse that requires prompt Intervention. She is almost certainly traumatized by this mistreatment and the condition will only be exacerbated by continued confinement.
I urge to take immediate and corrective measures on behalf of Ms. Zelada
Robert Fettgather, Ph.D.
