As many in Elbert County are aware, this Sheriff race has been hotly contested and had its share of drama.
What started as a race between 3 Republicans (Weiss, Heap and Sexton) at one time became a race between 4 candidates when former Sheriff Jack Knous joined the race immediately prior to the County Assembly. At the Elbert County Assembly, just Sexton and Heap were moved forward to the primary. Then the Weiss team routed a petition and were initially denied a slot on the primary election ballot however one law suit and a bit of courtroom drama later (see related articles) saw the name Weiss added to the list.
Tonight, the final ballots were counted and the unofficial results are as follows:
Unofficial Election Results for the Elbert County Colorado Sheriff
Bob Sexton 1,597 votes 36.63%
Shayne Heap 1936 votes 44.40%
Brian Weiss 827 votes 18.97%
Worth noting that of the total voter registration of 11563, 48.54% voted (or 5,613 votes). By all means a great turnout and something Elbert County should be proud of.
PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with normal election practise, the Elbert County Clerk and Recorder's Office will conduct canvassing of the votes in order to verify the votes cast are correct. Unless changes are required as a result of that work, the results made official.

Congrats HEAP!!!
Finally a real and honest person to fill these shoes
WOW!!! If you add Sexton and Weiss it totals more that Heap. It appears the the majority of the Elbert County did not want Heap. Oh well I guess were stuck with 4 more years of Frangis's mini-me.
After hearing all the canidates speak I thought Heap was by far the best choice and I am glad Elbery County agreed.
Congratulations Mr. Weiss! You successfully split the republican vote to insure that the sheriff's office will have four more years of the same politics as usual. Kudos to you!

Thank you Elbert County Examiner for the results, you are the only one out the with it posted
Looks like Sexton is moving back to his other home in Castle Pines
Obviously you do not have your facts any more correct now than when you voted.

You are all assuming that all of Weiss' votes would have gone to Sexton-- not so. Heap is and has always been his own man. The best man won.
word of advice to Heap: Shape up, start working for the people and not for Frangis and his one sided ways. you are not untouchable as he may have taught you.
Hi my name is Bob, I could not win in Douglas County, could not win in Elbert County, better sell my home in Elbert County and try in Lincoln or Adams County next
another stupid comment! He never ran in Douglas County, and as for his living conditions, he purchased a very nice home in Elbert County and intends to stay. Yes he does own a very nice home in Douglas- that is because he is a very hard worker, and knows how to manage money.
we are so screwed
