The final three games in El Paso Diablos history took place in Gary, Indiana with a three-game series against the Gary Southshore Railcats.
El Paso lost the first two games by the same score of 7-4.
In game one the Diablos compiled only eight hits. Designated Hitter Anthony D'Alfonso went 1-3 with two runs batted in.
Starter Jesse Estrada (2-2) suffered his second loss in seven games after throwing six innings allowing four runs on 10 hits.
Game two was very similar, as the Diablos lost 7-4. Alfonso went 2-4, with two doubles and two RBI's.
Kevin Cooper started going seven innings allowing four runs, three were earned, on nine hits. Cooper fanned eight Railcats. Justin Kuks (3-2) suffered the loss in 0.1 innings of work he allowed two runs on two hits.
In the finale, El Paso avoided the sweep winning 4-1. Left Fielder Oscar Mesa went 2-3 with a triple and two RBI's.
Starter Reyes Dorado (4-2) earned the victory after throwing six innings allowing one run on six hits. Marshall Schuler closed out the game to earn his 13th save.
With that being said, the Diablos finish 2013 at 39-61 (.390), 15 games out of first. 29-27 from July 2nd to September 2nd. El Paso captured nine series'. Probably the hottest months were from July to August, compared to going 10-34 from May to the end of June.
Shortstop Maikol Gonzalez who was named Poinstreak Hitter of the Week twice this season now has the honor of being called an American Association All-Star. Gonzalez hit .337 in 99 games with 130 hits and 43 runs batted in. An ideal leadoff hitter, Gonzalez ranked fifth in batting average, third in triples with nine, and first in stolen bases with 47. Last season he hit .330 and then .335 in 2011. Gonzalez is from Naples, Florida, he attended Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee where he was a Division II All-American twice.
Closer Marshall Schuler has the best earned-run average on the team, 1.47. Schuler pitched in 32 games, a team-best, compiling 45 strikeouts in 42.2 innings. He finishes 2013 at 7-2 with 13 saves. His seven wins are also a team best. Schuler is from Anaheim, California and he attended the Colorado School of Mines.
Former El Paso Diablos Catcher Zane Chavez was sold to the Baltimore Orioles back on February 1st. Chavez wrapped up a season with the Frederick Keys of the Class A Advanced Carolina League. He hit .295 with seven home runs and 49 RBI's in 75 games. Chavez also tallied 125 total bases with an on-base percentage of .390. He hit .231 in five games with the GCL Orioles before getting promoted to Class A. He hit .339 with 83 hits and 51 RBI's in 2012, he played with both the Diablos and Grand Prairie Air Hogs.
Former Infielder Omar Luna hit .360 with 18 hits in 13 games before being sold to the Atlanta Braves on June 22nd. Luna hit .297 with 41 hits and nine RBI's with the Double-A Mississippi Braves.
The Tucson Padres, the Triple-A affiliate to the San Diego Padres, concluded their season finishing four games out of first with a record of 77-67 (.535). The Tucson Padres are moving to El Paso, Texas next year as they will make their home in the new downtown ballpark. As for the Diablos the team will reportedly take 2014 off and will move to another city in 2015.
