Thursday, May 24, 2012, at El Monte Elementary in Mt. Diablo Unified School District, the evening was devoted to celebrating student accomplishments for the year. The CARES program is a big part of El Monte and students wowed attendees with their spring music festival. The drama presentation focused on conflict resolution, and Karaoke Club performed songs from musicals, both directed by Carissa Sugden. The El Monte Glee Club, directed by Maria Sajjad, performed top 40 songs. This could easily be the most professional production to date. Many of the students are performing for the second year and their performances are glowing. In addition, two second graders are part of the glee club because of their unusual talent.
While the productions were taking place parents had the opportunity to purchase nachos, or hotdogs from Best in Show Hot Dogs. Portions of the proceeds will go to support the CARES musical and theater programs at El Monte. Following the shows, parents were able to view classrooms with student projects on display for open house. The computer lab was open to provide parents an opportunity to complete an on-line survey giving feedback regarding school programs. In addition, the annual Scholastic book fair was being held in the newly re-modeled library, made possible by donations from an anonymous source.
If you would like to make a donation for a truly worthwhile cause, the After School Vocal Music and Theater Programs at El Monte Elementary, as part of the CARES program, please consider making a $10 donation made out to ‘Mount Diablo C.A.R.E.S.’ and send to El Monte Elementary, 1400 Dina Drive, Concord, CA 94518, c/o Carissa Sugden. If you live nearby, feel free to stop by the school office to make a donation. All donors will receive a DVD copy of the May 24th performance which includes nearly 2 hours of programming. You are guaranteed to enjoy viewing these phenomenal performers! Hurry, because no DVD’s will be sent after June 8th, 2012.
