Among the noted rums of Guyana's Demerara region, El Dorado 15 Special Reserve aged rum is perhaps the most celebrated blend.

This premium product of great distinction is a blend of specially selected aged rums, some as old as 25 years, blended to perfection by the company's master blenders and aged in oak casks. The bottle was inspired by the shape of the old hand blown flasks used on the banks of the Demerara river centuries ago by the sugar planters.
The old wooden pot stills of Guyana lend specific unique flavors to their rums. Among these rare relics are the wooden EHP continuous still, the wooden PM double pot still and the wooden single pot VSG pot still. Also in operation at Demerara Distillery are two four-column Savalle stills and three two-column metal coffey stills.
El Dorado 15 Special Reserve is a medium to heavy bodied rum of rich amber copper color. The nose presents great complexity with an inviting bouquet of buttery caramel, old oak, mild citrus and spiciness. Like a fine cognac, the palette presents an array of complex tones, a balance of sweet and dry characteristics with earthy, smokey echoes of bourbon. The finish is very warm, very long and richly satisfying.
In 1998 through 2001 the International Wine and Spirit Competition of London voted the El Dorado 15 Year Old Special Reserve rum the Best Rum Worldwide and gave the company the coveted Wray and Nephew Trophy; it's claimed as the world's only rum to achieve such a feat. In 2002 and 2003, the Gold Medal was awarded to the El Dorado 15 Year Old Special Reserve at the International Wine and Spirit Competition of London and the International Rum Festival, in the Super Premium Category.
Demerara Distillers produces a wide variety of fine rums in Guyana, including the El Dorado 5, 12, 21 and 25 year old blends.
