El Chapo killed: Most powerful drug lord presumed dead in Guatemala (Video)

Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzman (El Chapo), one of the most notorious Mexican drug lords in the world is presumed dead. The Guatemalan authorities suspect that he was killed during a recent shoot-out in Guatemala, according to a Feb. 22 Sky News report.

Government spokesman Francisco Cuevas told Guatevision Television that two drug gangs had clashed in Peten, and that officials are working to confirm whether or not the dead man is El Chapo. “We have to wait for all the technical information in order to determine if, in fact, one of the dead is of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzman,” Cuevas said.

El Chapo is one of America’s most wanted criminals, and just last week he received the same infamous title as Al Capone when he was named Chicago's Public Enemy No 1. “Not since the Chicago Crime Commission's first Public Enemy No. 1 has any criminal deserved this title more than Joaquín Guzman,” said JR Davis, president of the Chicago Crime Commission.

He has been in hiding since escaping from a Mexican prison in a laundry cart in 2001, and since 2009 has been named one of the world’s most powerful people every year by Forbes. His net worth is estimated at $1 billion.

El Chapo, who is head of the Sinaloa cartel, is also known as “Shorty Guzman” because of his vertically challenged stature.
