Ekaterina Kramarenko, Russians triumph at Pas-de-Calais tournament

Ekaterina Kramarenko is still fighting -- and winning.

The 20-year-old Russian, most famous for balking on vault during team finals at the 2007 World Championships, took first in the all-around at the 16th annual Pas-de-Calais tournament this weekend in Arques, France.

Kramarenko scored 52.4 to defeat Sweden's Ida Gustafsson (51.534) and Britain's Niamh Rippin (50.734).

In her second appearance at Pas-de-Calais, Russian junior Anastasia Cheong won her division with 51.267, narrowly edging Sweden's Kim Singmuang (51.234). (Here's a video of Cheong on floor at last year's Pas-de-Calais).

The Hopes division was taken by young Viktoria Rezakova, a St. Petersburg gymnast who bears some similiarity to Tatiana Nabieva, a fixture at past Pas-de-Calais meets who did not attend this year.

The competition was held in a sparkling new training complex that hopes to entice international teams to come train before the 2012 Olympics. Arques is only about 90 minutes from London by train.

Related: Kramarenko's career has been marred by the Incident at the 2007 Worlds, but she was a quiet, steady contributor to the Russian team before and after. Brigid McCarthy wrote a wonderful tribute to her last December, which can be read here on The Couch Gymnast.
