Sanderson Jones is coming to Portland from the U.K. to launch a “Sunday Assembly” congregation; at least, to see if there’s enough local interest to launch one. The “Sunday Assembly” is advertised as a “godless congregation” as it aims to look and act like a church, just “without the god-bits” and no supernatural beliefs. The main elements of the program are sing-along songs and inspirational talks, without referring to religion (in neither a positive nor negative way).
The Eight53 band will be providing all of the live music, as well as leading the congregation in sing-along songs. They also have a special audience participation song that they will try out. The band includes Richard Shank (vocals/keyboard), Steve Gajdos (Bass/Chapman Stick), and Benzo (Drums). They have an album released, called “eight fifty three,” which is available on iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, and Spotify. They affiliate with the genre of “alternative rock.” Some of their influences include Foo Fighters, Muse, Queen, and Led Zeppelin.
