Eidolon of Rhetoric from Wizards of the Coast's expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Journey Into Nyx" is a Rule of Law on legs.
Eidolon of Rhetoric - 2W
Enchantment Creature - Spirit (Uncommon)
Each player can't cast more than one spell each turn.
It is the soul of a philosopher who died of starvation contemplating the universe.
Eidolon of Rhetoric can significantly slow down an opponent, stopping them from casting multiple threats a turn or pulling off a crazy combo. Is you adversary playing a "storm" deck? They aren't going to rain down multiple spells any time soon.
One neat combo with Eidolon of Rhetoric in Standard is pairing it up with Possibility Storm, preventing your opponent from ever casting a card again. You don't exactly have to be in a winning situation if you're playing with man lands like Mutavault, Thespian's Stage (copying Mutavault), or a slow win with Maze's End.
Sure, Eidolon of Rhetoric dies to Mizzium Mortars in Standard, however in eternal formats such as Modern, Legacy, and Vintage Eidolon of Rhetoric remains just out of Lightning Bolt range thanks to its high toughness of four. Your rival will have to spend their precious Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile on Eidolon of Rhetoric, allowing you to commence savage beatings with your other bigger threats.
How will you use Eidolon of Rhetoric?
