New teach and old school meet when eHarmony becomes the first dot-com to enter a float in the Rose Parade, Phoenix Decorating Company announced on Wednesday morning. The 125th Tournament of Roses Parade will be held on Jan. 1, 2014 as the online dating service enters its 15th year. Riding the float will be nine-time Grammy winner Natalie Cole, singing “This Will Be” as it rolls along the parade route.
“We are elated that eHarmony has joined this 125-year tradition,” Phoenix Decorating Company President and CEO Chris Lofthouse said. “The fact that eHarmony is the first-ever dot-com business featured in the parade goes to show the evolution of the parade. We are so thrilled to what Dr. [Neil Clark] Warren and his company brings to the table.”
As a former dean of the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Warren has a strong local connection as well as international renown. “Having been a member of the Pasadena-area community for over 40 years, it brings me great joy to be part of the Rose Parade and to have the wonderful, talented Natalie Cole perform on our float,” he said.
The float will be titled “Everlasting Love” as a reference to eHarmony’s founder Warren’s vision to help every person find his or her soul mate and a nod to the 2014 Rose Parade theme “Dreams Come True.” “At eHarmony, we believe there is a meaningful, fulfilling relationship out there for everyone, and we are thrilled to bring that hope and promise to the national audience that waits for this event every year. We are proud to be part of the Rose Parade.”
Will there be a wedding on the float, a la 2013’s Farmers Insurance entry, also built by Phoenix Decorating Company? No word of that yet!
The theme of the 125th Rose Parade and 100th Rose Bowl Game is “Dreams Come True.” The Tournament of Roses is a celebration that lasts several weeks in the fall and winter, with the high points being the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.
