In a show of disrespect for United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton that will not soon be forgotten, hordes of Egyptians harassingly chanted “Monica, Monica” in reference to Monica Lewinsky and threw tomatoes at the American dignitary.

The unfortunate event occurred as Clinton was reopening the U.S. Consulate in Alexandria. As Clinton’s motorcade passed, Egyptians also yelled, “Get out, Clinton” as they threw shoes – an extremely rude measure in their culture – and water bottles and other items at her vehicle.
Neither Mrs. Clinton, who spoke at the Consulate’s reopening event, nor her vehicle were hit as police were on protective guard in riot gear. However, an Egyptian dignitary was allegedly hit in the face with a tomato.
The day before, many protesters also gathered at the hotel where Clinton was staying. They protested her presence because many angry Egyptians believe the United States assisted the Muslim Brotherhood in winning the election last month in which Mohammed Mosri won the election.
When she spoke, she denied that the United States helped determine the election. Other reports, however, claim that President Obama assisted the Muslim Brotherhood political party by giving them $1.5 billion before the election.
From Egypt, where Clinton met with the nation’s new president on Saturday, she travelled on to Israel.
The “Monica” reference in the most recent disrespectful protest against Clinton in their country dates back to the 1990s when her husband, then-President Bill Clinton, had an embarrassing affair in the White House with intern Monica Lewinski.
