It's common practice for the vast majority of reputable Western media outlets, such as Examiner.com, to choose to self-censor certain photographs that may be considered either inappropriate or too graphic for public consumption. However, in the advent of citizen journalism and social media, there are many that adhere to the notion of a shocking first impression is the best. Case in point would be the Facebook protest of an Egyptian activist against the ISIS terrorist organization, as reported by the American news portal Breitbart.com on Aug. 25, 2014, as well as the Jerusalem-based Times of Israel on Aug. 24, 2014.

Whilst no Muslim-dominated nation or Western Islamic-centered news organization is willing to run the provocative photo of 23-year-old Egyptian activist Aliaa Magda Elmahdy and a yet to be identified veiled confederate, the duo make their feelings known by menstruating and defecating on the black flag of al-Qaeda on Elmahdy's personal Facebook page. Since the rise of ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria), the Western Asia branch of al-Qaeda has adopted bin Laden's banner as their own. With few on the Muslim Street willing to even give the impression of insulting Islam, the publishing of Elmahdy's offending photo is strictly verboten due to the words "There is no God but Allah" printed on the flag. The photo of Elmahdy's protest is available on any of the three cited sources.

Elmahdy has made a name for herself in the Middle East for baring all in many of her public and internet protests against the violently oppressive ISIS terrorists. She initially burst on to the scene when she posted nude photos of herself along with various political slogans written on her body as a form of protest to "scream against a society of violence, racism, sexism, sexual harassment and hypocrisy" in her native Egypt. At the time, Egypt was ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood-dominated government of the since overthrown leader Mohamed Morsi.

Now known simply as IS (Islamic State - Arabic: الدولة الإسلامية‎ ad-Dawlah l-ʾIslāmiyyah), the jihadists have quite the sanguine history of kidnap, rape, torture and mass killings of those who refuse to adhere to their particular brand of Sunnni Islam. The most recent example of their handiwork was the internet video of their beheading of American freelance journalist James "Jim" Foley. Since Elmahdy's IS flag photo hit the internet, she has received a number of death threats which she's posted on the Facebook page. All threats are basically in the same vein as one posted recently "Inshallah [Allah willing], your throat got slit in the street, within days."
