Egypt's Mubarak resigned living out modern day history

All a St. Louis homeschooler needs to do is turn on KMOV, KSDK or the Fox News on television and watch history unfold.  Like reading the history books about countries shifting power, dictators falling and democracy attempts being made throughout the years, Egypt's recent actions have written a modern day history book for all to see.  And, it's not over yet.  Though, today a major change took place with Mubarak resigning.

Of course, not all of what is shown on the nightly news is appropriate for young children to view as much of these protests have been bloody and violent in nature.  But, as a homeschooling parent you have the opportunity to select the parts of Egypt's recent history-making actions which you want to share and discuss with your children.

Begin by making Egypt more real to your child.  Point out where there are Egyptian influences in the St. Louis area.  Or, read about the St. Louis teen who was stuck in Egypt throughout this ordeal.  One non-violent, easy way to start is by simply introducing the geography and symbols of Egypt from mapsofworld.com.  You can, move into Biblical mentions of ancient historical accounts in Egypt, including the life of Moses.  Wikipedia is one of the easiest ways to acquire fast overall knowledge.  Here is Wikipedia on Egypt.  Introducing the languge or foods of Egypt can be a fun way to become familiar with the culture.

Some great places to turn to get the history of Egypt dating back to ancient times include The Holy Bible, The Story Of The World Part 1, Mystery History or your St. Louis County or St. Charles County library.
