Spiritual leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood was arrested in Cairo as the military-backed government continued its crack down on Islamists that has claimed hundreds of lives in the past week.
The Brotherhood’s spiritual guide, Mohammed Badie, was arrested in an apartment at the eastern Cairo district of Nasr City, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
About 900 civilians and 100 police have died since the start of the operation to break up the pro-President Mohamed Mursi sit-ins last week.
Mursi’s ouster has sparked daily protests by his backers that have boiled over into deadly clashes. This has made it difficult for Egypt to emerge from the economic slowdown that has battered the economy and the nation since the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.
Mursi, has been in custody since his removal, was yesterday ordered held for 15 more days pending a probe into new claims he incited violence during the deadly unrest in December of 2012.
The Egyptian military has imposed a one-month state of emergency as violence spread after hundreds were killed on Aug 14 when police broke up sit-ins by protesters calling for Mursi’s reinstatement.
The streets of Egypt have turned into a revolution for social justice, freedom and democracy and were predicted by many in the astrology world.
In 2006 an award winning book "Cosmos and Psyche” by philosopher and social historian Richard Tarnas, was published. It spoke of the approaching alignment of the slow-moving planets Uranus (planet of revolution), and Pluto (planet of rebirth and decay) that is currently forming in the skies above the Middle East. These two planets will remain “in aspect” through the year 2020.
Tarnas stated, “The years 2007-2020 would likely bring a new infusion of the cultural impulses and archetypal dynamics that emerged during the 1960s, which is the last time these planetary energies were in major alignment.”
Tarnas further pointed out that Uranus represents the principle of change, freedom, rebellion and revolution and is associated with the unexpected.
“Pluto is the archetype of primordial energy and the universal life force that impels all evolution and transformation. It compels, empowers, overwhelms, transforms, destroys and resurrects. And, at its deepest level, it involves the mystery of death and rebirth,” says Tarnas.
According to Tarnas, the characteristic themes for this planetary cycle in past centuries include:
- Heightened impulses for radical social change and cultural creativity
- Accelerated technological and scientific advancement
- Empowerment of progressive and reformist political movements
- Intensified feminist, civil rights and counter cultural activity
- Increased drive for freedom and autonomy, for the collective and the individual
- Pressure towards radicalization in many spheres of action and ideas
“Generally speaking, Uranus-Pluto eras have tended to bring forth the catalyzing of powerful forces in many forms, the awakening of a will to power than can be both creative and destructive, and a tangible intensification and acceleration of human experience,” said Tarnas.
A report in Business Week stated, “Violence is also on the rise outside of Cairo. In Sinai yesterday, militants killed 25 policemen near the border with the Gaza Strip. The Interior Ministry, in an e-mailed statement, described the incident as a “continuation of the terrorist crimes in Sinai.”
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki stated, “Deliveries over the next few months of U.S. military hardware for Egypt, from AH-64 Apache helicopters to patrol boats, have been suspended as the U.S. evaluates how to respond to the turmoil in Egypt.”
