Eggstravaganza 2014 at Glass Academy's Dearborn location this weekend

The Eggstravaganza glass show and sale will take place this weekend at the Glass Academy, 25331 Trowbridge in Dearborn.

The spring holiday show will feature eggs, glass chicks with metal feet, birds in bowls and nest bowls; all available for purchase from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The April 5-6 show will also have a special preview party from 5-8 p.m. tomorrow.

“There are quite a few spring items, beautiful glass that is amazing,” said Glass Academy office assistant Stephanie Jasinski.

Besides providing an advance peek for prospective purchasers, Jasinski said, the preview "will be a catered event, so there should be a relaxed atmosphere.” For people to buy the $50 tickets, she said, “Call the gallery tomorrow, or order the tickets on-line at” She added the tickets for the April 3 preview can also be purchased at the door Thursday evening.

The show will be displayed throughout the whole facility, Jasinski said, including the hot glass shop and gallery. There will be free admission for all ages to the show on Saturday and Sunday, with live glassblowing demonstrations also taking place during that time.

While decorated Easter eggs may be a centuries-old art tradition, culminating with the famous Faberge eggs, Jasinski said “I think one thing people should pay attention to is the glassblowing, as we have master glassblowers talk as they are blowing, so people can learn about glassblowing as one of man's oldest forms of art.

“It's a nice thing that allows people to come with their families,” she said.

Each item at the show is individually hand-sculpted using traditional glass-crafting techniques, and one-of-a-kind styles and colors in eggs change annually.
