EGF Green Wave waves bye bye to LDC Chargers

Playing in their first state tournament after surviving a tough Section 8, the East Grand Forks Green Wave got four goals from Haley Mack to lead them to a 8-1 victory over the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons in the Class A quarterfinals Wednesday night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Haley Mack got the Green Wave on the scoreboard with two unassisted goals. She scored her 40th goal of the season by going top shelf and picked up another goal from the center slot.

EGF began the second period scoring as CeCe Piche passed through the center slot to Tiffany Hanson on the right side and she put it in the net for a three goal lead. LDC avoided a shut out on Kennedy Sommerfeld's rebound goal. Alexa Mack picked up an unassisted goal to regain the Green Wave's three goal lead. The lead would increase to four when Riley Koberinski shot past Dragon goalie Abby Roediger who was playing out of position and it went past her and bounced into the goal. Haley Mack picked up the hat trick on a goal from the center slot, sending a number of hats thrown by Green Wave fans on the ice.

Haley Mack would send the game into running time in the third period with her fourth goal, scored on a rebound. Piche found a piece of the net following a pass from Erica Eades :50 later.

Green Wave head coach Jim Scanlan took out goalie Mari Galstad following the goal and put in Sam Rarick.

EGF out shot LDC 37-12.

The top seeded Green Wave improved their record to 25-2-1 and will play the winner of the St. Paul United-Proctor-Hermantown game Friday, February 21 at 2 PM at the Xcel Energy Center. The Dragons fell to 10-18-0 and will play in the consolation semifinals against the losing team in that game Thursday, February 20 at noon at Ridder Arena, on the University of Minnesota campus.
