Tell Me on a Sunday with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Don Black will be presented by Egads! Theatre Company Nov. 6 through Nov. 23. This one-act musical will be playing at the Off Center Theatre in Crown Center and is based on an idea of Tim Rice, which he had wanted to develop for television. The show was originally presented at the Sydmonton Festival in 1979 with positive reactions. It was later re-written as a one-act play and produced in London in 2003. After three years it moved to Broadway with Bernadette Peters in the starring role.
The award winning Webber is best known for musicals such as; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and The Wizard of Oz. Tell Me on a Sunday was written to http://egadstheatre.comshowcase Webbers brother Julian, a world renowned cellist. Don Black received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for Born Free.
Love is the theme of the musical as we follow the star from New York to Hollywood and then back to Manhattan. The girl is being played by Overland Park, Kan. native Shelby Floyd. Floyd attended Blue Valley North High School and the Johnson County Community College. She has been seen in Sunday in the Park with George and Sweeney Todd with the Musical Theater Heritage, Spring Awakening and Seussical at the Coterie Theatre, Trousers with Egads! Theatre Company and Nuncrackers at the now defunct American Heartland Theatre.
The music for the Egads production will be conducted by Lenora Remmert on keyboard with Sascha Groschang of the Wires on cello, Kevin Payton on bass, Erik Blume on woodwinds, Ken Remmert on drums and percussion and Frank Anneccini on guitar. The show will include songs that will touch the emotions of the audience and some that will make them smile.
