If you didn't already know, the examiner is a nail decorating addict! The examiner is also a fan (no not a crazy fanatic) just a fan, of The Hunger Games movie. Especially the gorgeous, ever eclectic character Effie Trinket. Effie is absolutely gorgeous, bright, bold, unique, elegant, and completely original. Her aura is inspiring. Her makeup makes statements. And her nails surely do too. The scene in which all of the young men and women (and children) of District 12 are gathered round, this quirky cheerful woman on the stage... With great enthusiasm she dramatically selects a name... what a perfect dramatic nail look to zoom in on in such an intense moment. Make your nails stand out in the crowd like the Effie's with this Effie Trinket Reaping Manicure how to.
Start with a base coat if you so please. If not start out with a maroon or burgundy shade at the cuticle. The examiner used a deep shade in this color family. It is only necessary to paint about halfway down the nail. If you continue to the tips the polish will be much too thick and layered too high by the time your party nails are finished. This will lead to easy and quick chipping which nobody enjoys.
Next, apply another burgundy or maroon color, but a slightly lighter or brighter hue. Start about one third of the way down the nail, away from the cuticle, painting towards the tips. Leave the tip edge bare, but make sure the color is applied down far enough so that there will be no naked spots. (Optional: This step is optional. If you only wish to use one maroon/burgundy feel free, the second tone adds depth but is not necessary.)
Thirdly, select a golden shade. The examiner used a two step process and two different hues in gold as well. Paint the bottom third of the nail (or go as far up as you would like) in gold. Another golden tone (lighter/brighter/sparklier) may be used at the tips if desired.
Add sparkles if you would like.
Lastly, don't forget the topcoat! This will seal in the color, protect your perfect manicure, and smooth out the layers, this is especially important over glitter if you added some. Examiner tip: run the brush along the top edge of the nail too!
This look can be varied any way for any time of the year. Get adventorous with your color choices! Try a fun and wild color combination... think bold! Thanks for the great idea Effie!
