Stress is a huge problem in society and it has the power to cause many medical complications. However, you can reduce stress levels that you experience and prevent many of the associated ailments through using some or all of these great anxiety relievers. Most of the options mentioned are beneficial for both short and long term stress relief.
Physical activity
There are hundreds and even thousands of types of exercises that you can do to relieve stress. While the gym equipment is pushed on television and online advertisements, you don't have to spend any money to get active. Walking, jumping jacks, skipping, swimming, and even actions like washing the dishes by hand, all contribute to your level of physical activity. Yoga is fairly common and that is discussed further down in the article. Choose something that you like or something that has to be done, like the house cleaning. This will make the exercise a lot easier to commit to.
Laughter
Laughing has the ability to make you feel better simply by adjusting your mood. You may watch funny movies, read a comic, or laugh at nothing in particular. This laughter eases the stress that you are feeling much more than you might realize.
Relaxation therapy
Despite what you might think, you don't need to see a doctor for this one. You only need the audio recording and some headphones. Sit or lie down and relax with the recording, whether on CD or from the internet. YouTube has a lot of these recordings that you can access for free. Even after 10 minutes of this quality time, you may feel much more relaxed and calm.
Music therapy
This is different than the previous stress relief method mentioned above. Music therapy simply means listening to music that has the ability to calm your anxiety. For some people, this is very slow melodic music whereas others may prefer the upbeat and happy tunes. Music has great power to change the mood, for the better and the worse. Choose something that makes you happy and calm.
Listening to the music isn't the only solace. Playing it can also be quite relaxing as well. Whether you like the drums, guitar, piano, or otherwise, try it out. You never know just how much you can enjoy it until you try.
Sleep
Most people do not get enough sleep. In order for your body to relax and heal properly, you need between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. If you can't get this amount, try to make up for it during the day with a short nap. After obtaining this rest, you may notice that potentially stressful issues do not bother you in the same way.
Yoga
There are many benefits gained from doing yoga, stress relief included. These exercises concentrate on stretching the body and increasing the level of oxygen you breath in. The activities require mental focus but that is often one of the reasons why it is such a powerful method used to relieve stress.
Taking control
If you are always finding yourself at the mercy of doing things for others, you may need to take a step back and control your commitments. A person can only do so much. Reducing your work load may also decrease your anxiety. You might just have to learn to say no.
Getting help
There are times when professional help is needed. If you feel overwhelmed or like you can't handle it anymore, make an appointment with a counselor that you trust. Such an individual may be able to help you to clear that anxiety and learn how to cope with the events happening in your life.
